Sturbridge Metallurgical Services was started in 1990 in Sturbridge,
MA, by co-owner and president Courtney Grimes. Originally the company
was meant to be a small independent testing lab. Over the years, the
company grew; Sturbridge Metallurgical now benefits from two full-time
and several part-time employees. They outgrew two previous locations
before settling in their current home at 8 Picker Road in Sturbridge,
MA. Currently, the lab offers a complete range of testing services and
the company sells full lines of laboratory and metallurgical equipment
and supplies.
In 2002, Dr. Jean Bigoney and Sturbridge Metallurgical Services worked
together to open a new lab- Springfield Metallurgical Services- in
Springfield, VT. The two companies will work together to serve more
customers with the same outstanding quality and service.

SMS, Inc. currrently has 6,500 sq. ft of laboratory testing and support
equipment including the facilities for failure/litigation conferences.
